In February 2012, we introduced the Personal Injury Protection (PIP) Medical Benefits Questionnaire. Our goal in executing this questionnaire was to improve our new business verification of Excess PIP. Additionally, we enhanced our iBIS system to automate the PIP questionnaire. We are now turning our attention to our renewal book.
Today, approximately 49% of our renewal book is represented at Full Medical. Marketplace statistics show only 20% of medical care providers coordinate benefits, (meaning they are primary on auto-related accidents). This PIP verification project, which includes a policyholder mailing, is being completed to assure we are receiving proper premium for our renewing exposures.
We will mail a PIP Medical Benefits Verification questionnaire to all customers under age 65 who have Excess PIP coverage, between 120-150 days prior to renewal. We will begin with December 1, 2013 renewals. They will be asked to complete the questionnaire in its entirety and return to Frankenmuth Insurance in the self-addressed, postage-paid envelope. If the questionnaire is not returned, coverage will automatically be changed to Full Medical at the upcoming renewal.
The Agency Renewal Report will identify customers whose policy is being changed to Full Medical at renewal (see attached sample). The policy will be marked with a “Y” within a column titled “PIP Renewal Change#.” At the bottom of the renewal report you will find the “#” sign, explaining the change being made to the policy. It will read: PIP CHANGED TO FULL BASED ON VERIFICATION MAILING.
Each month, we will mail you a listing of your customers set to receive the questionnaire. Along with this listing will be copies of the cover letter to the insured and the PIP Medical Benefits Verification Questionnaire. You will be armed with the information you need to be responsive to customer inquiries.
Please contact your Personal Lines Underwriter if you have any questions regarding this PIP Verification program.
We appreciate your support.
