The addition of youthful operators and properly classifying driver assignments can have a significant impact on an insured’s personal auto premium.  To ensure proper premium is assigned for such situations, please review these factors as they relate to students away at school and driver assignments.

Student Away At School Discount

You may apply this discount when youthful operators reside away from the household to attend school and meet the following criteria: 

•        Occasional operators age 16-21
•        School is more than 100 miles from the automobile’s principal garaging location
•        An adult principal operator is rated on the same vehicle

Driver Assignments

We do not allow the practice of stacking youthful operators.  When these drivers are “stacked” on a policy, the result is inadequate premium for the second youthful operator rated on the policy.

For example, let’s consider the proper assignment of a policy which has two adult operators, three vehicles, and two youthful operators. The two adult operators should each be assigned as principal operators on a vehicle, one youthful operator should be assigned as a principal operator on a vehicle, and the second youthful operator should be rated as an occasional operator on either of the vehicles that has an adult operator.
