A key component of audit processing is classification of the risk.  Classification changes at audit can impact the final premium and your agency’s profitability.   To assist you, we have provided these helpful tools to assigning classification.

It is common for contractors during winter months to perform snow removal. Classification codes 9402 and 99310 Snow Removal are applied to contractors who remove snow from residential and commercial properties whether they are using a truck with a snow plow, snow blower, or shoveling it by hand.

To properly assign codes 9402 and 99310 Snow Removal the insured should:

1.    Keep the payroll records separated for each employee performing snow removal  

2.    Document in the records when the snow removal started and when the season ended

3.    Document number of hours or weeks charged to the customer

The entire exposure for the winter season will be placed in the higher rated applicable classification when:

1.    Payroll records are not separated for each employee who performs multiple tasks such as landscaping, lawn maintenance, and snow removal, etc.

2.    Percentages are only provided
