During the COVID-19 pandemic, and for generations to come, our life insurance policies are here to protect those who matter most to our policyholders. For many, finding ways to protect their loved ones financially is top-of-mind right now, and life insurance offers an ideal solution.
Frankenmuth Insurance is committed to providing peace of mind for our policyholders and agency partners. As an essential business, we are open for business and will continue to operate remotely and monitor developments closely throughout the crisis.
We are announcing temporary changes to our life insurance underwriting guidelines. Under these temporary guidelines, underwriters will review factors that impact a proposed insured’s likelihood of surviving COVID-19, which may include age, travel, and underlying conditions. Certain underlying conditions may require the application to be postponed at this time.
Effective April 14, 2020:
- Applications are suspended for proposed insureds ages 76 and older who do not use tobacco products and ages 71 and older who do use tobacco products.
- Applications for proposed insureds with recent or future international travel will be evaluated closely and may be postponed.
- An amendment for proposed insureds over age 50 has been added. Upon signature, it attests that in the last 30 days, the proposed insured:
- Has not been treated, diagnosed, or tested positive for COVID-19 or any respiratory syndrome/illness, pneumonia, or flu (influenza); and,
- Has not traveled outside of the United States.
(Please note: Amendments must be signed by the applicant and returned to the home office for the case to be placed in force and commissions to be paid.)
As more information related to COVID-19 becomes available, we will update our underwriting guidelines accordingly. We appreciate your consideration and partnership as we all work through this pandemic together.
