If an insured’s policy is cancelled for non-payment of premium, it can only be reinstated with underwriting approval.
Some points to remember:
· Approval required – This applies to any requests received on or after the effective date of the cancellation.
· If payment is received via the U.S.P.S. – on the cancellation effective date, it will be accepted. After that date any check will be returned to the insured, and the policy will remain cancelled.
· Number of days past cancellation – The sooner the better; there is a greater likelihood of underwriting agreement to reinstate within a day of two of the cancellation.
· Talk with an underwriter – Do not use e-mail or voice mail for requests to reinstate coverage.
Underwriting will review the account for:
· Loss experience
· Payment history
· Cooperation with past audits
· Class of business
· Outstanding Loss Control recommendations
If Underwriting agrees to reinstate, the insured will need to be prepared to:
· Forward a signed letter of no known losses
· Call the company with credit or debit card payment
