As part of our continued effort to ensure we are getting the appropriate rate for each homeowner’s risk, we closely monitor rating variables such as protection class assignments.   Here are a few reminders when entering the location information in iBIS.

1)      Be sure to determine the actual location of the residence.  If the home is not located within the city limits, the surrounding township must be selected on the Location Protection screen in iBIS.

2)      The distance to the fire hydrants and responding fire department is also very important in determining the appropriate assignment in a split class situation.

3)      Getting this information from your client at the time of application will help to avoid possible changes to the protection class.   This will also alleviate any necessary premium adjustments to the policy.
