If you ask someone if they have health insurance, they should be able to tell you yes or no. If you ask them if their health insurance will provide primary coverage for motor vehicle related injuries, not everyone will know the answer. With the number of different and ever changing health plans in the marketplace, it would be nearly impossible to provide a list of which ones will provide primary coverage and which ones will not.
There are two, Medicare and Medicaid, that will not provide primary coverage for motor vehicle related injuries. Medicare supplements follow the same rules as Medicare and will also not provide primary coverage for motor vehicle related injuries. This is just something to be aware of when helping your clients select the coverage that would be a best fit for their insurance needs.
