The current effort in the Michigan Legislature to reform our no-fault system is heading for a vote as early as tomorrow, and now is the time to contact your state legislator to express support of House Bill 5013.
The reforms under consideration are designed to provide relief to our mutual customers who pay the highest auto insurance premiums in the country. The Insurance Alliance of Michigan (IAM), of which Frankenmuth Insurance is a member, has been working closely with key stakeholders in the Legislature and the city of Detroit to reach agreement on key reforms. House Bill 5013 will:
• Provide for a statewide fraud fighting authority to crack down on auto insurance fraud and abuse, which costs the average Michigan family hundreds of dollars a year in additional premiums.
• Reduce medical costs and insurance premiums by providing a fee schedule for medical procedures to stop providers from charging two or three times more for care related to auto accidents.
• Provide for a choice of different levels of medical benefits to lower insurance costs and give consumers the flexibility to choose what works best for them.
