The snow is finally here and just in time for snowmobile enthusiasts.  Snowmobiles can be endorsed to the home policy from the Sport Vehicle/Boat page in iBIS.  Physical damage and liability are separately added.  The physical damage on a snowmobile is covered for the actual cash value with open perils.  There are some exclusions.

On premises liability and medical payments coverage are extended at no extra charge.  When a snowmobile is taken off the residence premises the insured needs the Sport Vehicle Blanket Liability endorsement.  To add this endorsement, iBIS requires you add another separate “vehicle” on the Sport Vehicle/Boat page.  Choose Sport Vehicle Blanket Liability from the drop down box.  This endorsement covers all sport vehicles owned by the insured.

Snowmobile rates are established on a seasonal basis so there’s no need to add and delete coverages throughout the year.  This helps minimize complications if an insured were to remove the sled in the summer then forgot to add it back on in the winter.  Also snowmobiles experience relatively quick depreciation.  Efforts should be made to periodically update the scheduled values.

When underwriting the risk, we review the age and 5 year MVR history for each driver, the “ccs” of the engine and if the engine is 2 or 4 stroke to determine eligibility.  Also, we are not in the market to write high performance style sleds.  If you have questions about the eligibility of the driver or the unit, call underwriting before binding coverage.
