Frankenmuth Insurance updates its policy forms to stay current in the market and to remain compliant with statutory requirements.

Effective Dec. 1, 2017, we are revising the Michigan Homeowner (HO-0121) and Dwelling Fire (DP-0121) – Special Provisions Endorsement. To keep our policyholders informed of these changes, we will be including a “Notice to Policyholders” (FM-1986) in each policy renewal.

Following is a summary of the key changes to guide you in your conversations with our mutual customers:

MI Home and Dwelling Fire Program
HO-0121/DP 0121, Special Provisions – Michigan:

  • Loss Payment and Mortgage Clause provisions: If the municipality has elected to apply the provisions of MICH. COMP. LAWS § 500.3011, a part of the payment for fire or explosion to loss or damage to a covered property will be withheld if the named insured has failed to submit a required report to the fire or law enforcement authority designated by the municipality within 21 days of a written demand.
Reason for the change: These have been updated to comply with recent statute changes.  This new law does not change the coverages provided, however, it does clarify the loss settlement.
  • Cancellation provision: At least 30 days’ notice will be given to the policyholder before cancelling the policy.
Reason for the change: Provides better clarification of the cancellation policy.

MI HP
01528, Back Up of Sewer or Drains – Michigan:

  • Form # 01528 – Back Up of Sewer or Drains: Revised waiting period from 15 days to five days.
Reason for the change: To better position us with the competition and provide our mutual policyholders with proper coverage.
  • Manual Rule Page: Revised to show the five-day waiting period and to clarify when coverage can initially be added.
Reason for the change: Updated to sync up with form verbiage.

If you have any questions about the above revisions, please contact your personal lines underwriter.

Thanks for your continued support of Frankenmuth Insurance.
