We are implementing changes to the availability of our Water Back-up of Sewers or Drains Coverage.  The limits of coverage remain unchanged, however, to improve future profitability of the coverage, the following underwriting revisions are effective December 1, 2011 for new and renewal business:

  •       Any new business policy with a water back-up loss in the past three years will be required to have an acceptable loss prevention system in place to be eligible for Back-up of Sewers or Drains coverage
  •      Any renewal policy which includes Back-Up of Sewers or Drains having a water back-up loss in the past three years will be reviewed by Underwriting. If it cannot be determined the insured has installed an acceptable loss prevention system, Back-Up of Sewers or Drains coverage will be removed at the next renewal.  Ultra Home Guardian policies include Back-Up of Sewers or Drains coverage.  Therefore, any Ultra Home Guardian policy with a water back-up loss in the past three years is also required to have an acceptable loss prevention system in place to be eligible for the policy.  If they do not, the policy will be non-renewed, but we will offer the option for you to re-write the risk on a Home Protector policy (without the Back-up of Sewers or Drains endorsement).

An acceptable loss prevention system includes either a water powered backup sump pump or a home standby generator powered backup sump pump.

If you have any questions regarding this revision, please feel free to contact your Field Manager, Personal Lines Underwriter, or me.  We appreciate your continued loyalty.
